Introduction #
This guide explains how to use RTK FIX NTRIP credentials with the South Galaxy G7Q GNSS receiver when it is configured through South SurvStar on a compatible field controller, such as the South H9 controller.
In this workflow, the South Galaxy G7Q is the GNSS rover receiver. SurvStar is used to connect to the receiver, enter the NTRIP caster details, select the mountpoint and monitor the RTK solution.
RTK FIX NTRIP credentials are not the same as your website login. Use the NTRIP username and password shown in your RTK FIX dashboard. These credentials may be case-sensitive, so copy them exactly.
For product reference, see the South Galaxy G7Q rover set supplied with South H9 controller and SurvStar software: View the South Galaxy G7Q rover set →
Need RTK corrections for multiple regions or providers? RTK FIX lets you access correction services from multiple providers through one platform, making it easier to manage NTRIP subscriptions for different field projects. Open the RTK FIX dashboard →
What you need #
- South Galaxy G7Q GNSS receiver.
- Compatible Android field controller with South SurvStar installed.
- Bluetooth or another supported connection between the controller and the receiver.
- Mobile internet on the controller, for example by SIM card or Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Active RTK FIX NTRIP subscription.
- RTK FIX NTRIP caster address, port, username, password and mountpoint.
- A project in SurvStar with the correct coordinate system, datum and geoid settings for your job.
Find your RTK FIX NTRIP credentials #
- Open the RTK FIX dashboard: Open the RTK FIX dashboard →
- Sign in with your RTK FIX account.
- Open your active RTK correction subscription.
- Find the NTRIP connection details for your correction service.
- Copy the caster address, port, NTRIP username and NTRIP password exactly as shown.
- Check which mountpoint is recommended for your region, receiver and project requirements.
Do not enter your RTK FIX website login details in SurvStar unless they are explicitly shown as the NTRIP credentials. The NTRIP username and password can be different from your dashboard login.
Connect the receiver #
- Place the South Galaxy G7Q on the survey pole.
- Power on the receiver and wait until it has started.
- Power on the field controller.
- Open SurvStar.
- Create or open the correct project before configuring corrections.
- Connect SurvStar to the South Galaxy G7Q receiver using the receiver connection method supported by your controller, normally Bluetooth or NFC/Bluetooth pairing.
- Confirm that SurvStar shows live GNSS information from the G7Q before continuing.
The exact receiver connection menu can vary by SurvStar version and controller configuration. SOUTH provides SurvStar training material for Bluetooth receiver connection and CORS/NTRIP workflows, but the exact English menu labels can differ between software versions. If your screen uses different wording, use the closest receiver connection and rover configuration menu.
Manufacturer resources for SurvStar are available here: View SOUTH SurvStar application resources →
Open the NTRIP settings #
- In SurvStar, open the rover configuration or work mode area for the connected receiver.
- Select a rover mode that receives corrections through the internet or CORS/NTRIP.
- Open the NTRIP or CORS connection settings.
- Choose an external correction source from an NTRIP caster, not an internal UHF radio mode.
The verified SOUTH resources confirm SurvStar support for connecting a rover to CORS through NTRIP, but the exact field labels can vary by SurvStar version and language pack. Do not guess unknown fields. If a field is not available in your SurvStar version, leave it out and use the fields shown by the app.
Enter the RTK FIX connection details #
Enter the RTK FIX NTRIP details in the SurvStar NTRIP or CORS settings. Use placeholders only when preparing documentation. Never publish real usernames or passwords.
| Device or app field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Server, Caster or Host | Your RTK FIX NTRIP caster address, copied from the RTK FIX dashboard. |
| Port | Your RTK FIX NTRIP port number. |
| User, Username or NTRIP Username | Your RTK FIX NTRIP username. This may be case-sensitive. |
| Password or NTRIP Password | Your RTK FIX NTRIP password. This may be case-sensitive. |
| Mountpoint | The mountpoint recommended in the RTK FIX dashboard for your correction service. |
| NMEA, GGA or position upload setting | Enable GGA/NMEA position messages if you are using a VRS or network RTK mountpoint that requires rover position. |
VRS mountpoints commonly require NMEA GGA position messages from the rover so the network can generate corrections for the rover location. Only use an exact GGA interval if it is specified by the SurvStar version, the correction provider or the project instructions.
Select the mountpoint #
- Use the mountpoint list in SurvStar if the app can download it from the caster.
- Select the mountpoint shown or recommended in your RTK FIX dashboard.
- If the mountpoint list does not load, check the caster address, port, internet connection, username and password.
- If your correction provider gives several mountpoints, select the one that matches your area, correction format and network type.
Common network RTK mountpoint types include VRS, FKP and MAC. The South Galaxy G7Q rover set is described as supporting NTRIP and network RTK workflows including VRS, FKP and MAC when used with a suitable correction service and field setup.
Start the NTRIP connection #
- Save the rover or NTRIP configuration in SurvStar.
- Start the rover work mode or correction connection.
- Wait for SurvStar to connect to the NTRIP caster.
- Check that correction data is being received.
- Keep the controller connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi while measuring.
Receiving correction data does not prove that the project coordinate system is correct. Always check the coordinate system, datum and geoid settings separately before measuring production points.
Working in different countries or switching between correction providers? RTK FIX can help keep multiple RTK correction options available through one platform, so crews can choose a suitable provider for the job area. Open the RTK FIX dashboard →
Verify the RTK solution #
After starting the NTRIP connection, check the GNSS status in SurvStar before collecting or staking out points.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Single or Autonomous | The receiver is calculating a standalone GNSS position without usable RTK corrections. Do not measure RTK points in this status. |
| DGPS or DGNSS | The receiver is using differential corrections, but this is not an RTK fixed solution. Accuracy is usually not suitable for centimetre-level RTK work. |
| Float | The receiver is using RTK corrections, but the ambiguity solution is not fixed. Do not treat Float as centimetre-accurate. |
| Fixed or RTK Fixed | The receiver has an RTK fixed solution. Measure only when RTK Fixed is shown and the reported accuracy is acceptable for the job. |
Do not promise or expect a fixed solution in a specific number of seconds. Fix availability depends on satellite visibility, correction quality, baseline or network conditions, internet stability, multipath and receiver environment.
Checks before measuring #
- Confirm the solution status is RTK Fixed.
- Confirm the estimated horizontal and vertical accuracy are acceptable for the project.
- Check the correction age. A high or increasing correction age can indicate internet or caster problems.
- Confirm the project coordinate system is correct.
- Confirm the datum and geoid model are correct for the deliverable.
- Check the antenna height or pole height before storing points.
- Confirm whether the entered height is vertical height or slant height, according to the SurvStar field shown.
- Check that the pole is stable and the receiver has good sky visibility.
- Avoid measuring close to walls, vehicles, trees, metal structures or other sources of multipath where possible.
- If using IMU tilt compensation, follow the receiver and SurvStar workflow shown on your controller and verify results on known points.
- Measure a known control point before starting production work.
Troubleshooting #
| Problem | Possible cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| SurvStar does not connect to the South Galaxy G7Q. | The receiver is off, Bluetooth is not paired, the wrong receiver is selected or another app is using the connection. | Restart the receiver, check Bluetooth pairing, select the correct receiver serial number and reconnect in SurvStar. |
| The NTRIP caster does not connect. | No mobile internet, incorrect caster address, incorrect port or blocked network connection. | Test internet on the controller, then re-enter the RTK FIX caster address and port exactly as shown in the dashboard. |
| Login fails. | The NTRIP username or password is wrong, copied with an extra space or confused with the website login. | Copy the RTK FIX NTRIP username and password again. Remember that credentials may be case-sensitive. |
| The mountpoint list does not load. | The caster connection is not established, credentials are incorrect or the correction service is not active. | Check subscription status in RTK FIX, verify the NTRIP credentials and try loading the mountpoint list again. |
| The rover connects but remains Single or Autonomous. | Corrections are not reaching the receiver or the wrong rover mode is selected. | Confirm that SurvStar is using an internet/CORS/NTRIP rover mode and that correction data is being received. |
| The rover receives corrections but stays Float. | Poor sky visibility, multipath, long network baseline, unsuitable mountpoint or unstable correction stream. | Move to a more open location, check correction age, select the recommended mountpoint and wait for the solution to stabilise. |
| VRS mountpoint connects but no usable corrections are received. | The network may require NMEA GGA position messages from the rover. | Enable the GGA/NMEA position upload setting in the SurvStar NTRIP configuration if this option is available. |
| Coordinates appear shifted even with RTK Fixed. | The coordinate system, datum, geoid or site calibration is wrong. | Check the SurvStar project coordinate settings and verify the setup on known control points before measuring. |
| Heights are wrong. | Incorrect antenna height, wrong pole height, incorrect geoid model or wrong height reference. | Check the pole height entry, antenna height method, vertical datum and geoid model before collecting points. |
| Correction age keeps increasing. | Internet connection is unstable or the NTRIP stream has stopped. | Check mobile data or Wi-Fi, reconnect to the caster and confirm the correction stream is active. |
