Introduction #

This guide explains how to connect an EFIX F8L GNSS receiver to RTK FIX corrections using the manufacturer’s eField application.

The typical setup uses the EFIX F8L with an EFIX FC2 Android field controller. The controller connects to the receiver by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, while eField manages the NTRIP connection.

The NTRIP settings are entered in eField under the rover work mode. They are not entered in the project coordinate-system settings.

View the EFIX F8L rover set, datasheet and manuals →

What you need #

  • An EFIX F8L GNSS receiver with sufficient battery charge.
  • An Android controller running a licensed version of eField, such as the EFIX FC2.
  • A Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection between the controller and receiver.
  • An active internet connection on the controller or receiver.
  • An active RTK correction subscription obtained through RTK FIX.
  • The NTRIP server address, port, username, password and mountpoint supplied for that subscription.
  • A project in eField with the correct coordinate system, datum and geoid settings.
  • Good satellite visibility at the measurement location.

RTK FIX lets you obtain correction-network access from multiple providers through one platform. Open the RTK FIX dashboard →

Find your RTK FIX NTRIP credentials #

  1. Open the RTK FIX dashboard →.
  2. Open the active correction subscription that you want to use.
  3. Locate the NTRIP connection details supplied for that subscription.
  4. Keep the server address, port, NTRIP username, NTRIP password and mountpoint available while configuring eField.

The NTRIP username and password are not necessarily the same as the email address and password used to sign in to the RTK FIX website.

NTRIP credentials may be case-sensitive. Copy every value exactly, without adding spaces before or after it.

Never publish or share screenshots containing your real NTRIP username or password.

Connect the receiver #

  1. Mount the EFIX F8L securely on the survey pole and switch it on.
  2. Open eField on the controller.
  3. From the eField main interface, open Config.
  4. Select Connect, followed by the GNSS tab.
  5. Set Brand to EFIX.
  6. Set Type to RTK.
  7. Set Model to F8L.
  8. Under Contact type, select Bluetooth or WiFi.

Connect by Bluetooth #

  1. Tap Search to open Bluetooth management.
  2. Tap Refresh and select the EFIX F8L from the available devices.
  3. Pair the receiver when requested.
  4. Return to the eField connection screen.
  5. Confirm that the receiver appears under Target.
  6. Tap Connect.

Connect by Wi-Fi #

  1. Tap Search to open the controller’s WLAN settings.
  2. Refresh the available networks and select the network identified by the receiver serial number.
  3. Enter the receiver Wi-Fi password when requested.
  4. Return to the eField connection screen.
  5. Confirm that the receiver appears under Target.
  6. Tap Connect.

Use the current receiver password supplied with your equipment. A password may have been changed from the factory setting during commissioning.

Open the NTRIP settings #

  1. After the F8L is connected, remain in the Config area.
  2. Open Instrument.
  3. Select GNSS rover.
  4. Tap New to create a new rover work mode.
  5. Select the NTRIP work-mode type.
  6. Enter a recognisable name for the work mode, such as RTK FIX rover.

Do not select Radio, APIS, TCP or PPP for this procedure.

Enter the RTK FIX connection details #

Device or app field What to enter
Name A descriptive work-mode name, such as RTK FIX rover.
Network Select PDA network when the controller provides the internet connection. Select Receiver network only when the receiver has its own configured mobile-data connection.
Domain/IP The NTRIP server address shown in the RTK FIX subscription details.
Port The NTRIP port shown in the RTK FIX subscription details.
Mount point The mountpoint assigned to or selected for the subscription.
Username The RTK FIX NTRIP username, copied exactly.
Password The RTK FIX NTRIP password, copied exactly.
Automatically connect to CORS (NTRIP) Enable this when eField should reconnect to the selected NTRIP service automatically after the receiver is connected.

Do not enter your RTK FIX website-login password unless it is explicitly shown as the NTRIP password for the subscription.

Some RTK FIX subscriptions use a hostname rather than a numerical IP address. Enter the value exactly as supplied in Domain/IP.

Select the mountpoint #

  1. After entering Domain/IP, Port, Username and Password, tap Get Mountpoint.
  2. Wait for eField to retrieve the available source table.
  3. Open the Mount point list.
  4. Select the mountpoint supplied or recommended for your RTK FIX subscription and project area.
  5. Do not choose a mountpoint solely because it appears first in the list.

A VRS or network mountpoint commonly requires the rover to send an NMEA GGA position message. This gives the correction service an approximate rover location so it can generate or select suitable corrections.

The reviewed eField procedure does not provide a separate GGA interval for this NTRIP work-mode screen. Do not change an unverified GGA interval. Contact support when the selected VRS mountpoint reports that no rover position is being received.

The mountpoint must also be suitable for the receiver, correction format, subscription coverage and project location. Use the value supplied with the service rather than guessing from its name.

Start the NTRIP connection #

  1. Check all entered values for spelling, capital letters and unwanted spaces.
  2. Tap Save&Accept to save and apply the work mode.
  3. When eField displays Accept successfully, check details?, tap OK.
  4. Review the NTRIP login information in Instrument Info.
  5. Wait while the controller or receiver establishes the internet and NTRIP connection.

The Save button stores the work mode without necessarily applying it. Use Save&Accept when you are ready to activate the configuration.

Coverage, mountpoints and connection details differ between correction providers. RTK FIX gives you one place to access services from multiple providers. Open the RTK FIX dashboard →

Verify the RTK solution #

Use the eField status bar and Instrument Info screen to confirm the receiver state.

Status Meaning
Single or Autonomous The receiver is calculating its position without usable RTK corrections. This is not suitable for RTK measurement.
DGPS or DGNSS The receiver is using differential corrections, but it has not produced an RTK ambiguity-fixed solution. Accuracy is normally lower than RTK Fixed.
Float The receiver is using RTK corrections, but the carrier-phase ambiguities are not fixed. Float must not be treated as centimetre-accurate.
Fixed The receiver has resolved the RTK carrier-phase ambiguities. Measure only after this status is stable and the reported accuracy is acceptable for the work.

In the eField status bar, red indicates a single solution, yellow indicates a float solution and green indicates a fixed solution.

Also check the displayed horizontal and vertical accuracy estimates and the differential correction age. Estimated accuracy is a quality indicator, not a guarantee of the true coordinate accuracy.

Receiving corrections or showing Fixed does not prove that the project coordinate system, datum, geoid or site calibration is correct.

Checks before measuring #

  • Confirm that eField shows a stable Fixed solution.
  • Check that the estimated horizontal and vertical accuracy are acceptable for the task.
  • Check that the differential correction age is current and stable.
  • Confirm that the project uses the required coordinate system and projection.
  • Confirm that the horizontal datum matches the project requirements.
  • Confirm that the correct geoid or vertical datum is selected when orthometric heights are required.
  • Verify the antenna or pole height and its measurement method.
  • Check that the pole height entered in eField matches the physical pole setup.
  • Work with a clear view of the sky where possible.
  • Avoid measuring close to reflective walls, vehicles, metal structures, dense trees or other sources of multipath.
  • Check a known control point before beginning important survey or stakeout work.
  • Repeat the control-point check after changing mountpoints, coordinate settings, site calibration or receiver configuration.

Project coordinate settings are separate from the NTRIP connection. Configure or verify them in the eField project and coordinate-system menus before recording final measurements.

Troubleshooting #

Problem Possible cause Solution
The F8L does not appear in eField. The receiver is off, out of range or the wrong connection method is selected. Switch on the receiver, move the controller closer and confirm that Brand is EFIX, Type is RTK and Model is F8L.
Bluetooth pairing fails. The receiver is already connected to another controller or an old pairing record is interfering. Disconnect other controllers, remove the existing Bluetooth pairing on the controller and pair the F8L again.
Wi-Fi connection fails. The receiver password is incorrect or the controller is connected to another wireless network. Select the receiver network again and enter the current receiver Wi-Fi password supplied with the equipment.
eField shows Requesting… continuously. The software is waiting for the receiver or NTRIP login response. Check the controller-to-receiver connection, internet access and all NTRIP fields. Then apply the work mode again.
eField reports a username or password error. The NTRIP credentials are incorrect, contain extra spaces or use the wrong capitalization. Copy the RTK FIX NTRIP username and password again. Do not substitute the RTK FIX website-login password.
The mountpoint list does not load. The server address, port, internet connection or login details are incorrect. Confirm Domain/IP, Port, Username and Password, then tap Get Mountpoint again.
The selected mountpoint will not connect. The mountpoint is unavailable, outside the subscription coverage or not authorised for the account. Select only the mountpoint assigned or recommended for the subscription. Check the RTK FIX dashboard for the correct service details.
A VRS mountpoint connects but sends no usable corrections. The service may not be receiving a valid rover-position GGA message. Confirm that the F8L has a valid autonomous position and that the correct NTRIP work mode is active. Do not invent a GGA interval; contact support if the service still reports no rover position.
The receiver remains on Single. No usable corrections are reaching the receiver. Check NTRIP login status, data connection, selected mountpoint and correction age.
The receiver remains on Float. Satellite visibility, multipath, correction quality, baseline conditions or atmospheric conditions are preventing ambiguity fixing. Move to a clearer location, keep the receiver away from reflective surfaces and confirm that corrections are current. Do not measure as though Float were Fixed.
The correction age is high or keeps increasing. The internet connection or NTRIP data stream has stalled. Check the controller or receiver data connection, then reconnect the NTRIP work mode.
The receiver is Fixed, but coordinates are wrong. The project coordinate system, datum, geoid, site calibration, antenna height or mountpoint may be incorrect. Stop measuring and verify the complete project configuration against known control. Receiving corrections does not verify the coordinate system.
Heights are consistently offset. The pole height, antenna-height method, geoid or vertical datum is incorrect. Check the physical pole height, the value entered in eField and the project’s vertical reference settings.
The NTRIP connection stops after the controller screen locks. Android power or background-data settings may be restricting eField. Allow eField to run in the background and exclude it from battery optimisation where permitted by the controller configuration.
