NTRIP accounts are the login credentials you use within your RTK device to access and receive RTK correction data. The usernames and passwords are automatically generated by the system for ultimate protection.
Within your RTK receiver, drone, tractor or any other RTK enabled device, you will have a section called NTRIP client (Could be named rover or NTRIP as well). This is the place where you enter these details to access the RTK correction data stream.
Naming your NTRIP account #
When creating a new NTRIP account within the RTK FIX dashboard you will be prompted to give it a name. This can be any name you like as this is just so you can recognise which device it is.
Activating and deactivating an NTRIP account #
You can create an NTRIP account at any time you like. Once created they belong to your account. In order to use these NTRIP details you will have to activate it with either a subscription or credits.
This NTRIP account is not activated – only the username and password are visible
This NTRIP account is activated – the DNS, IP and port are now visible
You can disconnect your subscription from your NTRIP account. You can either do this manually if you wish to activate another NTRIP account with your subscription, or this happens automatically when your subscription or credit activation expires.
Your NTRIP account with all the details will remain within your account. This means that you can easily reactivate it again whenever you want to use it.
NTRIP account details #
Each NTRIP account profile consists of a few parameters to successfully login with your RTK device in order to receive correction data. The parameters are as follow:
NTRIP username: #
Your NTRIP username is automatically generated. These consist or capital letter and numbers.
NTRIP password: #
Your NTRIP password is automatically generated. These consist or capital letter and numbers.
NTRIP IP & DNS: #
The NTRIP IP and DNS are the server parameters to access the RTK correction data. It is always recommended to use and try the DNS first. (ntrip.rtkfix.com). Reason being is that if for some reason we have to change servers an thus IP, your connection won’t be affected. If you are using old RTK devices that can’t handle DNS you can use the IP.
NTRIP port: #
The NTRIP port are part of the server parameters to access the RTK data. Within the RTK FIX ecosystem, each network if mapped on a different port. For example, network A in Belgium is running on port 2102 and network B is running on 2103. This is important to know if you are using multiple networks within your account.
You will see the port change when activating your NTRIP account with a different network.
NTRIP mountpoint: #
For each network within the RTK FIX ecosystem you will see a list of mountpoints. General rule for most receivers is to use mountpoint: VRS-RTCM32. If this mounpoint is not available, look for a similar name in the list.
Always try to select a VRS mountpoint. If that doesn’t work because your RTK device can’t handle it, use a NEAREST mountpoint. A quick explanation below:
VRS – stands for Virtual Reference station. This is when the RTK network generates a virtual base station close to you. By far the best option to use. NOTE: your RTK device needs to be able to send NMEA position data to the network for it to work. sometimes marked in your RTK device as “GGA data”
NEAREST – This mountpoint will select the closed physical base station to you. Use this if you’re having issues with VRS. NOTE: your RTK device needs to be able to send NMEA position data to the network for it to work. sometimes marked in your RTK device as “GGA data”
Single base – This mountpoint will connect you directly to a specific physical base. Since VRS software is expensive, some RTK networks only offer this solution. With this solution you will have to know yourself which base is closed to you.
RTCM data – RTCM is the standard data format for RTK correction data. Almost all RTK receivers can handle this kind of data. Behind the RTCM, there is a code. For example RTCM3.2, this is the version. Always try and go for the latest version available. 3.2 for example. If that doesn’t work, scale down to 3.0, or even 2.3 if your device is really old.
CMR and CMR+ – This are RTK correction formats for Trimble receivers. Use these if your trimble receivers can only handle CMR format, else it is recommended to use RTCM.
Deleting your NTRIP account #
You can delete your NTRIP account at any time. For example if you gave someone access and you want him to stop using it. Keep in mind, when you delete your NTRIP account, these associated login credential will not be available to you anymore. This process can’t be reversed.
Best is just to deactivate your NTRIP account, this will prevent unauthorised people from using it as well.
