Frequently asked questions

You can find them here or feel free to contact us at any time!

Where are my account details?

Your account details will be send to you via email. This email contains your login details and all other useful information to help you get started. If you do have issues connecting or have any other questions feel free to contact us! support@rtkfix.com

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes! You will need an internet connection at all times. Without internet you won’t be able to connect to our servers and we won’t be able to send anything back. This is because we transmit our data via NTRIP (Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol).

How do I know its working?

There are multiple ways to know you’re connected. Most devices give you a conformation message like “connected” or “connected to NTRIP Caster”. If it doesn’t have this then another way you can see it is via the positioning status. This can be DGNSS, FLOAT RTK (FLOAT) or RTK FIX (FIXED). When your device shows any of these options then you know you’re connected. You can find the difference between these positions statuses down below. You can also see if you’re connected is on the differential age or correction age. This will show you when the last correction message has been received from our servers. This normally fluctuates between 1 and 2 seconds. It can sometimes go up a bit if the internet connection is bad.

If you’re not sure feel free to contact us at any time!

IP Address, Caster address

In order to connect to us you need to tell your device where to get the data from. This is the so called caster address or IP address. You have to options in this. with 95% of the devices it doesn’t matter which one you use but some older receivers only accept an IP address instead of a URL.

  • URL (most commonly used)

rtkfix.net

  • IP Address

165.227.159.178

Port number

Simply said the port number tells your device where to send the request to on our servers. To keep things simple RTK FIX only uses 1 port for its whole network.

2101

Mountpoints

We made this simple for you as well. Most provider use complicated mountpoint names. Which is not really a big deal if you know what you’re talking about but if you’re just running a small construction company and you’re new to this then its a whole different story.

Since our network cover name countries and to still keep things simple we have just named them by country name. So are you in The Netherlands? select mountpoint “Netherlands”. In Belgium? Use “Belgium”. You see where this is going.

Most RTK enabled devices allow you to fetch the list of mountpoints from our servers. This way you don’t have to remember them.

Still need a list of the mounpoints? You can find them here: http://rtkfix.net:2101

Difference between FLOAT RTK and RTK FIXED

Real Time Kinematic (RTK) is a technique used to increase the accuracy of GNSS (GPS, Glonass, Galileo, BeiDou) signals by using a fixed base station which wirelessly sends out corrections to a moving receiver (rover). By using these corrections, the RTK GNSS receiver can fix the position of the antenna to within 1 – 2cm.

The technique involves the measurement of the carrier phase of the satellite signal, which is then subject to some sophisticated statistical methods to align the phase of these signals to eliminate the majority of normal GNSS type errors.

This alignment process goes through three phases, acquisition, ambiguity ‘Float’ mode and ambiguity ‘Fixed’ mode. Accuracies in Float mode are in the region of 0.75 – 0.2m and 0.01 – 0.02m in Fixed mode.

How long before I receive my subscription details?

Our system is fully automated. So once you have completed your order, an account will be created for you instantly. Your username, password and all other information you need to login will be send to you directly via email.

Who can use RTK FIX?

Everyone with an RTK Enabled GPS (GNSS) module. As long as your receiver, software or any other type of equipment is capable of processing correction data you’re good to go. The standard RTCM format is used to transmit this data. This generally happens within the NTRIP Client on board of your device.

I haven't received my subscription details

All subscription and login details are automatically generated by our subscription management system. This is then send to you via email so generally speaking you will have received this in your inbox within a minute. It could happen that this mail ended up in your SPAM FOLDER so please make sure you check this as well. Another reason could be a delay in the mail servers so please allow up to 5 minutes for it to arrive.

When will my subscription expire?

You can find the expiry date of your subscription in My Account under the associated subscription. Please keep in mind that all subscriptions are automatically renewed so if you do not wish to use it anymore, make sure you cancel it

I want to use RTK FIX for a few days

Since our subscriptions are automatically renewed, you can use it for as long as you want. Finished your work and don’t need it anymore? Just cancel at any time.

Example: I need RTK corrections for 3 days. All you have to do is get 1 daily subscription. This will stay active for as long as you like. So when you finish your work after 3 days, all you have to do is go to My Account and cancel it.

I want to pause my subscription

Yes this is possible. If you want need it for a while but know that a job is coming up in the future, just reactivate you subscription and you’re good to go! We keep things simple for you!

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes you can cancel your subscription at any time! So if you only wish to use it for 1 day then just get a daily subscription and cancel it before it gets automatically renewed. You can cancel your subscription in My Account

What happens to my subscription when I cancel?

When you have cancelled your subscription it will still be active for the time you have purchased it for. Meaning you can continue to use it for this period.

Example: You want to use RTK FIX only for 1 day. All you have to do is buy a daily subscription. You can cancel this right away if you like since the subscription will be active for the time you have bought it for.

What payment options can I use?

Since RTK FIX is a subscription based product we are limited in the payment methods we can provide. You can choose from the following options:

  • Credit Card or Debit Card
  • IDEAL

When new payment options arise that support subscription based transaction we will make sure to add them as soon as possible

Can I change my payment option after I ordered?

No this is not possible. Since we use the first initial payment as a verification that the card or bank you’re are using is correct, you won’t be able to change it. If you still wish to use another card or payment option for next time then just cancel your subscription. This will continue to work for the time you have bought it for. Then after that you can purchase a new subscription with your preferred payment method.

Do I have to pay taxes? (VAT, BTW, IVA, GST)

We made this simple for you as our system will automatically check if you have to pay VAT or not based on the information you provide.  However to further explain it please look below:

This depends on a number of factors. First this can have many names like VAT, GST, IVA, BTW and so on. All prices in our store are displayed exclusive of any taxes, duties and any other charges that may arise depending on the country of use.

Now there are a few factors to consider. RTK FIX is based in The Netherlands and therefor everyone in The Netherlands pays VAT. Not in The Netherlands? Then one of the 3 options will be for you.

  1. A consumer based in Europe

Are you a consumer location in Europe. By European law we will have to charge Dutch VAT on your purchase since our store is based in The Netherlands. Dutch VAT is 21%

  1. A business based in Europe

Are you a business located in Europe and do you have a valid VAT number for cross border transactions? Then no VAT will be calculated during checkout and a VAT reverse charge will be applied. Of course you will still have to comply with your countries tax laws

  1. A business or consumer outside of Europe

Are you a business or consumer located outside of Europe? Then no VAT will be calculated during checkout. Of course you will still have to comply with your countries tax laws.

Quick fix guide - Solves 95% of the issues!
  1. Is your receiver or RTK Device currently sitting on your kitchen table or office desk? I know this sounds obvious but we do get this a lot. Let me explain: If the receiver is inside on the table, the possibility for it to get a position and know where it is are slim to none. Why is this important? Well since we run a VRS network we need to know where the receiver is in order to match it with nearby base stations so we can send you the right correction data. So please take it off the table and put it outside where it has a clear few to the sky when you’re trying to connect. This is what happens: Kitchen table --> no positioning data(GGA) --> no location --> unable to connect to basestation --> no correction data --> connection gets dropped
  1. Do you have internet access? Quick check if you do – if you can’t fetch the mountpoint list but normally you could then there’s a high possibility that you don’t have internet. No internet – no correction data. Or open your internet browser and try to load a new page.
  2. Are your username and password correct?  Make sure you copy everything as is given to you. 1 Mistake in any of the settings and it doesn’t work. Look for typing mistakes or misplaced capital letters. This often happens on tablets as sometimes it starts with an unintended capital letter
  3. Is your device showing a position already? Because if it’s not then we don’t know where you are and so we can’t send you any correction data. We need to match your position with a nearby basestation and if your receiver doesn’t know where it is, we don’t know where to connect you to.
  4. Did you tick the box “send GGA data to caster? In order for us to send you correction data, we need your positioning data back. Else we don’t know which base station to connect you to. Because if its not then we don’t know where you are and so we can’t send you any correction data. If you’re device doesn’t show this option then it might has this active by default.
  5. Does it have a clear view to the satellites? When initiating RTK corrections, the easier you make it for the receiver in the beginning, the faster it will get a fix. So give the receiver some clear sight towards the sky to make it easier for him. The type of receiver also depends on its RTK capabilities but thats a whole different story. It’s best to contact Global GPS Systems for this as they can help you out with this question.
