How to setup RTK corrections in any Emlid receiver

Setting up an RTK network in your Emlid GPS

This guide will explain you on how to setup your Emlid GPS receiver with an RTK network like RTK FIX. When you connect your Emlid GNSS receiver to an VRS RTK network there are a few things that need to be setup correctly in order to receive correction data. In this guide we have used the Emlid Reach RS2 with the Emlid Reachview software.  The main features are the same for all other devices so this should give you a good idea of how to do it. This instruction document is also useful for the Emlid Reach RS+, M+ and M2

Step 1

In this example we will use the Emlid Reach RS2. The settings in all Emlid devices are mostly the same, just make sure that your device has internet and that you have sufficient satellite coverage.

Since RTK FIX is a VRS network it needs a position from the receiver to calculate a solution. 

Step 2

When you have sufficient satellite coverage and have an active internet connection you can go to Correction input.

have not setup your internet yet? Make sure you do this first! either with mobile data or through a hotspot. Without internet you won’t be able to receive correction data. 

Step 3

Next to base corrections on the right you can turn on this feature. once active you will see the menu on the image below.

Since RTK FIX is an NTRIP caster you will have to choose NTRIP. 

Step 4

You should have received your login details from RTK FIX. If not, just go into your user portal and select the subscription you want to use.

The details you need to fill in are as follows: 

  • Address:  (OR
  • port: 2101
  • Username: Fill in your RTK FIX details
  • password:  Fill in your RTK FIX details
  • Mountpoint: Emlid automatically fetches the mountpoints for you after you have filled in the address and port. Just select the country that you’re in.

Don’t see a list of mountpoints? Then you probably don’t have an active internet connection. Please check your internet and try again. 

IMPORTANT:  the last step is a checkbox (Send NMEA GGA messages to the correction provider( required for VRS) ). RTK FIX is a VRS network so this option need to be turned on

After all the steps you click apply


Step 5

When everything is setup properly you should see the message Connected to (Or of course to the mountpoint you have selected)

After the setup you go back to Status. When the connection is successful you should see the following:

  • Age of differential is showing numbers between 0 and 1
  • Baseline shows a distance
  • Solution status says either FLOAT or FIX 

Down below you see that it is connected to the RTK FIX caster but that it is still in a float position. This means that the Emlid is still working out an accurate position. 

Step 7

After approximately 30 seconds the solution status has shifted from FLOAT to FIX. This now means that your device is centimeter accurate. You can see this in the positioning data.
